- Limit your physical exertion.
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for long periods.
- Stay in shaded areas when possible.
- Wrap a wet towel around your head and neck for instant cooling relief.
- When possible, work outside during the mornings when the sun hasn't reached its peak yet.
- Avoid drinking caffeine and/or sugary beverages.
- Certain types of medication may increase the risk of heat-related illness.
- Wear light-colored clothing to reflect sunlight.
- If you're working outside during the summer, take a short 5-10 minute break every hour.
And finally a must in keeping your pet(s) cool during the hot Arizona summers is having plenty of water on hand for them. Pets will drink more often in the heat, so make sure they have plenty of water available. Putting ice cubes in the water helps them cool down even faster too!
